INNOVATIVE WATER FILTER SYSTEM
During wet cleaning, the artificial turf is flooded with high pressure, thus swallowing out fine particles and dirt. The dissolved impurities are directly sucked off with the dirty water and collected in the tank. In the same way, the filling material is crushed over time and the finest particles are produced, which are so small that they can be inhaled. Depending on the filling material, pollutants such as microplastics, heavy metals or PAHs can also enter the body and cause health damage. Sandmaster has developed a solution for this: the artificial turf complete washing with a mobile water filter system. The full artificial turf wash can be performed in almost any weather, even with temperatures of up to +4 °C at the lowest and even in the rain.
POLLUTANTS IN WASTE WATER
MICROPLASTICS
Microplastics are solid and insoluble synthetic polymers (plastics) which are smaller than five millimetres. Rubber granulate in artificial turf fields also fall into this category.
HEAVY METALS
Heavy metals such as led, zinc and chrome, which are found in artificial turf, can have a harmful impact on humans and the ecosystem.
PAHs
PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) can be released when the artificial turf is played on, become airborne and breathed in. They are seriously harmful to the athletes’ health.
BACTERIES
Organic dirt on the artificial turf like dander, bird droppings, leaves and saliva from players (“spitting”) can be a breeding ground for bacteria which are a potential health risk.

CUSTOMER OPINIONS
The filtering efficiency for the cleaning system used by Sandmaster is very high. It can be an important and effective measure to reduce to a large extent the release of micro-waste and related chemicals from artificial turf.
We were surprised how many dirt particles were visible after washing and how clean the water was after filtration! This gives us a much better feeling when it comes to taking care of our seats and also does something for our environment.
THE PROCESS OF PROFESSIONAL FULL WASH OF ARTIFICIAL TURF
Sandmaster’s full wash of artificial turf is an innovative and sustainable cleaning process for infilled artificial turf pitches. Through the targeted use of large volumes of water, deep-seated fine particles, microplastic abrasion, dust, organic residues and other contaminants are dislodged from the artificial turf system and removed. The process plays a key role in maintaining the sporting performance characteristics of artificial turf pitches and extends their service life.
Step 1: Preparation and water supply
Before starting, our specialists analyse the condition of the artificial turf. Based on the filament structure and the level of soiling, the cleaning head, brush system and spring-tine bar are individually adjusted to the requirements of the pitch in question.
Step 2: Deep cleaning of the artificial turf system
At the same time, a specially developed spring-tine bar loosens compacted areas of the infill material. The downstream brush unit distributes the infill material evenly and realigns the artificial turf fibres as effectively as possible. This improves key playing characteristics such as ball roll, shock absorption and slip resistance.
Step 3: Environmentally sound water treatment
The wastewater produced during cleaning is collected in an integrated tank. Once this is full, the water is treated using our specialised mobile filter, the ‘Water Beast’.
The multi-stage filtration system reliably removes fine dust, microplastic particles, organic residues and other pollutants from the water. Only after this filtration process is the treated water discharged into the sewer system. This prevents pollutants from entering the environment.
Whilst the water is being treated, the fresh water tank is refilled so that cleaning can continue without interruption. This process is repeated continuously until the entire playing surface has been fully treated.
Step 4: Restoring sporting function
Once the full wash cycle is complete, the artificial turf appears significantly cleaner, more uniform and performs better. Compaction is reduced, drainage is improved and the system’s elasticity is enhanced. At the same time, the artificial turf fibres are straightened and the infill is distributed evenly.
The result is a hygienically clean, visually enhanced and functionally optimised artificial turf pitch that meets the requirements of modern sports facilities.
Scientifically proven effectiveness
The effectiveness of the Sandmaster artificial turf deep clean has been investigated by the Institute for Sports Facility Testing (ISP) with regard to the improvement of sporting performance characteristics and the removal of contaminants. The results have been documented by independent laboratory analyses and confirm the high cleaning performance of the process.
